When I used to go swimming as a little kid me and my friends would play a game of who can stay under the water the longest. When we did that as kids we held our breaths under water I’d stay 30 seconds a time. It was easy doing that as a kid in fact fun, but as growing up and being part of a world holding my breath while above water is very slowly becoming a reality. This reality is happening because of the lack of effort made to save the world from everyday abuse. Now questions among the science community what if there wasn’t air for five seconds? The amount of things that would happen would be catastrophic earth is crust would crumble, everyone’s inner would explode, and every structure of concrete would crumble.
The world would be in shambles if it would run out of air for five seconds.
The reason so many things would happen is because our earth is one fifth in volume made from oxygen according to the American Museum of Natural History. They published an article about the earth with plenty of oxygen compared to how now we reach lower levels of it becomes dangerous. In an article from Science ABC an educational website to inform the public in scientific advancement, they argue that if the Earth lost oxygen for even 5 seconds concrete buildings would crumble, the crust would crack and people's ear drums would explode. Although it's unlikely that we'll ever lose all of the oxygen, because of depleting ozone layer the Earth is currently losing some of its oxygen.
The author Ishan Daftardar a well known publisher for the science world tells why the concrete would crumble if there was no air for five seconds “Oxygen is an important binder in concrete structures, and without it, the compounds do not hold their rigidity”(Daftardar). Concrete buildings are everywhere in the world and without oxygen most of the world's buildings would collapse. Just that alone can cause a major scare for plenty of people. There are other things Daftardar mentions in his article about what would happen to the world.

Crust is the top layer of our earth it is the layer of earth we built everything in on. Now if the earth would have no air for five seconds just five the according to Daftardar the earth is crust would crack “Oxygen constitutes 45% of the Earth’s crust. Therefore, without its major constituent, the earth below us would disappear and we would free fall”(Daftardar). The earth is crust extremely important to us no matter what and without it we could not build any building. The two things combined the concrete crumbing and the crust cracking would be a terrible double whammy to hit us. All of this is because of no air for five seconds. The other thing that would happen in matter of seconds is everyone’s inner ears would explode.
Hearing is one of our five sense maybe one of the most important. Now when there is no air for five seconds the earth is crust would crack and the concrete that builds almost everything would crumble. Not only do those things happen, but also our inner eardrums would explode. So if you're not dead, then your inner ear would explode according to Daftardar “We would lose about 21% of the air pressure in an instant, which would be similar to jumping from sea level to nearly 2000m almost instantly. This would prevent the eardrums from becoming acclimated to the changes in pressures. We would experience something called barotrauma (refers to injury sustained from failure to equalize the pressure of an air-containing space with that of the surrounding environment). Barotrauma usually occurs when there is a sudden change in pressures”(Daftardar). The things he discusses are very much a reality that could happen if we don’t pay attention. Our ears would be gone we could not hear anything and it would be extremely painful.
The earth would be the worst place to live in without air even for five seconds the earth would see things no one would want to. Instead of people doing nothing to save our clean air they are still polluting there are small signs everyday. I don’t want to wait for the worst to come before the people start taking initiative. The movement to stop air pollution should start now before it is too late.
