Most Advertising Doesn't Work!

Companies and campaigns spend endless amounts of money on their message and promoting themselves through advertisements, but how do they know if the advertisements changed the way consumers see/buy their product? It’s basically impossible to determine how much every dollar spent on advertising brings back to a company. The editors from All Business who specialize in advertising and marketing had a few ways to roughly figure out a campaigns effectiveness. The campaign group must create specific goals for specific products, monitor sales and amount of new customers gained.  

Advertisement campaigns must have clear and specific goals. If sketchers releases brand new shoes and unrolls a campaign with it, they should judge the campaign based on that specific shoes sales, not the whole companies sales. Before the campaign can even be revealed, companies need to know previously what their sales has been for the company and their different products. Without the original data there is no way to judge if it was successful.
Another way to measure effectiveness and success is to monitor sales. Depending on the campaign, sales can be monitored to see if a brand as a whole is becoming recognized or just particular products. While making sales, companies can contact consumers through various ways and attempt to find out how they heard of the product or why they decided to buy it.  
Lastly, another good way to measure an advertisements success is to figure out how many new customers were aquired shortly after the campaign release. Using the new and returning customers pattern companies can analyze how often consumers are coming back and there behavior towards the company. The pattern is on the companies computer and it figures out how many customers are returning, how many are new and how much they are tending to spend.

Although there is no way to exactly know the effectiveness of an advertisement campaign, with the advancement of technology and better statistics of sales it has become easier to get a grasp on. The use of goals and monitoring sales are both great ways to manage the results of a campaign, but with the advancement of technology it’s most beneficial to use the new and returning customer pattern that computes it all for a company.
